TikTok Pro Events held #1 as Roku led a streaming surge and work apps cratered

The post-World-Cup #1 settled on TikTok Pro Events this morning with Capital One parked at #2 and no catalyst ever verified for its two-day reign, Roku jumped 30 spots to lead a streaming and theater pack while Microsoft Teams, YouTube, and Zoom each fell 25-plus, ReelShort rocketed 19 spots to drag the microdrama cohort back up, Rips by Triumph climbed on a real-money card-pulling mechanic, and 82-0.com re-entered the games top 10 behind a sort-puzzle wall that would not budge.
TikTok Pro Events held #1, and Capital One's mystery reign settled into a #2 park
TikTok Pro Events sat at #1 on Apple's US free apps chart this morning, with Capital One Mobile at #2, ChatGPT at #3, Netflix Game Controller at #4, and Atom Tickets at #5 (Apple, anerg Jul 31).
- The post-World-Cup #1 has rotated among five apps since the Jul 19 final (FOX One, ChatGPT, TikTok Pro, Netflix Game Controller, Capital One) and is now settling on TikTok Pro Events as the durable top. The standalone "cultural moments" companion, launched Jun 3 for the FIFA World Cup fan hub, outlived every single-event broadcaster app and is the only former #1 still occupying the spot (TechCrunch).
- Capital One Mobile's unexplained two-day reign (Jul 28-29) is over and reverting. The 15-year-old banking app slid to #2 with still no outage, product launch, or breach disclosure to explain the original vault from #48, and its Capital One Shopping sibling held at #12, putting two Capital One apps in the top 15. The month-end engagement thesis (106M monthly users logging in Jul 28-31 for paychecks and bill pay) fit the two-day hold but not durability past it (capitalone.com/status).
Roku +30 led a streaming and theater surge as work apps cratered
The leisure-versus-work split sharpened into Friday's biggest chart movement. Roku climbed 30 spots to #64, the largest jump in the entire top 100, joined by Amazon Prime Video +22 to #68, Tubi +21 to #72, AMC Theatres +18 to #27, Disney+ +14 to #58, and Netflix +7 to #59, with Paramount+, Peacock, and VIZIO all re-entering and Regal arriving as a new entrant at #69 (anerg Jul 31).
- The mirror image was the work stack collapsing. Microsoft Teams fell 27 spots to #52, YouTube fell 27 to #60, Zoom Workplace fell 25 to #88, Outlook fell 15, LinkedIn fell 13, and Google Meet fell 12. A Friday heading into the weekend is the simple frame, but the magnitude (three apps down 25-plus in one day) points to a sharper leisure-up, work-down swing than a normal weekday drift.
- The money is mostly invisible to the App Store ledger. Free ad-supported services like Tubi and the Roku Channel monetize through advertising, not in-app purchases, and subscription streamers increasingly bill through the web to avoid the 15-30% store commission, so a download surge like this shows up on the free chart but barely on the revenue chart, two different realities (AdMapix).
- Content is pulling some of the climbers. Prime Video is riding "Ride or Die" at #1 and "Silo" at #3 on the weekly US streaming chart (JustWatch via Media Play News, Jul 27), Disney+ just dropped X-Men '97 Season 2 and Descendants: Wicked Wonderland (Disney+), and Peacock's "Obsession" made its streaming debut Jul 17. Structurally, streaming hit a record 48.6% of US TV viewing in May with the Roku Channel at a platform-best 3.1% (Nielsen via Streaming Better, Jul 29).
- Three movie-ticket apps now chart together, Atom at #5, AMC at #27, and Regal at #69, riding The Odyssey's box office run into its third weekend.
ReelShort +19 led the microdrama cohort back up
ReelShort rocketed 19 spots to #21, DramaBox climbed 4 to #17, PineDrama climbed 7 to #53, StoryReel climbed 3, VibeShort climbed 4, and DramaWave climbed 7, reversing the Jul 30 split in which the incumbents were deflating (anerg Jul 31).
- ReelShort is the category's revenue engine. It and DramaBox each generated close to $140 million in Q1 2026 in-app revenue, the category's top two grossers, and ReelShort still earns close to 30% of all microdrama in-app spending, more than any rival, even as newer apps took download share (Sensor Tower, Apptopia, Jul 1). It is listed on the App Store under NewLeaf Publishing.
- The category keeps scaling. The top seven microdrama apps held above 11 million monthly US downloads and topped $17 million in June in-app revenue, with June the largest month-over-month growth of the half (Apptopia, Jul 1).
- TikTok's two-front push holds. Its own PineDrama climbed alongside the incumbents while TikTok Pro Events sits at #1, giving TikTok Ltd. both the top events app and a rising drama app on the same chart.
Rips by Triumph +17 as real-money card-pulling apps crowded the chart
Rips by Triumph climbed 17 spots to #39 on the apps chart, and its sibling Triumph: Play for Cash sat at #16 on the free-games chart, putting two apps from the same real-money studio in two different charts on the same morning (anerg Jul 31, Apple Games).
- Rips is a trading-card pack opener with a cash-out loop. Users open packs of real PSA-graded cards, pull rarities worth up to $10,000-plus, then either keep the cards, have them shipped, or sell them instantly for real money withdrawn through Venmo, PayPal, debit, or ACH (App Store). It is gambling-adjacent, and it has charted high before, hitting #1 on the US free chart back on May 8 (Ember Picks).
- The studio's other app, Triumph: Play for Cash, runs 18-plus skill games for cash prizes and claims more than $400 million paid out to players in the last year (App Store). Rips has roughly 6.6 million installs and 132,000 ratings at 4.68 stars (AppGoblin).
- The mechanic draws friction. Users repeatedly allege rigged pack odds and opaque account bans, which compounds churn pressure from high shipping costs even as the pack-ripping loop keeps driving new-user acquisition (Marlvel, Jul 29).
82-0.com re-entered the games top 10 behind a sort-puzzle wall that would not budge
82-0.com, the viral basketball roster-builder tagged "Draft Legends. Go 82-0," sat at #9 on Apple's US free-games chart, holding a top-10 slot behind the sort-puzzle wall that has frozen the top five (Apple Games).
- The sort-puzzle wall held the top five unchanged, Block Out at #1, Smash Fest at #2, Meowdoku at #3, Bus Traffic Fever at #4, and Magic Sort at #5, the same five apps that have frozen the top for roughly two weeks. The Istanbul and Beijing puzzle studios (Grand Games' Block Out and Magic Sort, Oakever's Meowdoku, Flow Games' Smash Fest) keep the lock through paid user-acquisition and ad-monetized playbooks.
- 82-0.com is the indie exception that keeps coming back. It first hit #7 on the free-games chart on Jul 16 and has cycled back into the top 10 repeatedly, including Jul 28 and again today, suggesting the share loop is recurring rather than a one-week burst. The game spins a random NBA team and decade, has you draft a legend into each of five positions, simulates an 82-game season, and asks if your squad can go undefeated (Yahoo Sports, Jun 4).
- A sibling football version, 20-0.com: Draft Legends (spin a team and era, draft legends, chase a perfect 20-0 season), sits in the same roster-builder genre and is positioned for the NFL season arriving in September (App Store).
Tracking
- Apple vs Epic. Still no ruling from Judge Gonzalez Rogers on Apple's stay request, about two and a half weeks after briefing closed on Jul 14. The last filing was Apple's notice of the parallel Coral Springs stay on Jul 17 (9to5Mac, Jul 17). Status quo holds at 0% commission on external-link purchases, with Apple forgoing the 27% while it waits. If the stay is denied, Apple must file its commission proposal within 24 hours; if granted, the lower court goes on ice through Supreme Court review (arguments Oct-Dec 2026, ruling around Jun 2027).
- AI assistants. Google Gemini climbed 3 spots back to #9 and Claude sat at #10, putting three AI assistants in the top 10 alongside ChatGPT at #3 and partially reversing the late-July ceiling-lowering. Grok rose 7 to #45; Meta AI slipped 3 to #31.
- ColdTrace. Still out of the top 100 after collapsing Jul 27, with no new case update to re-inflate it. The indie simulated-phone detective from Saclic Studio needs a fresh case (the v1.1.0 "New Case and New Design" update on Jul 2 was the original catalyst for its run from #920 to #12) to climb again.
- hololive Dreams. Held #1 on both the Japan App Store and Google Play grossing charts as of Jul 27 (gamebiz), while staying gone from the US free-games top 25. The grossing-versus-free divergence holds: US free rewards paid-UA puzzle velocity, Japan grossing shows where the paying VTuber fanbase lives.
That’s the reading for this issue.
