The top 5 apps didn't move from Friday to Sunday for the first time since the World Cup final, Capital One parked two apps in the top 12 with still no verified catalyst, ParentSquare debuted at #19 as school districts mandate the app for August, Spider-Man: Brand New Day's record $168M opening day couldn't budge Atom Tickets from #5, three AI assistants climbed back into the top 10, and the sort-puzzle wall held the free-games top 5 for a third week.

The top 5 froze over the weekend, and TikTok Pro Events settled in as the durable #1

TikTok Pro Events sat at #1 on Apple's US free apps chart for a fourth straight morning (Apple), with Capital One Mobile at #2, ChatGPT at #3, Netflix Game Controller at #4, and Atom Tickets at #5. That is the identical top 5 to Friday morning, the first time the front of the chart has not moved overnight since the World Cup final on July 19.

Capital One parked two apps in the top 12, and the mystery still has no answer

Capital One Mobile held #2 for a fourth day, and Capital One Shopping sat at #12, putting two apps from the same 15-year-old banking company in the top dozen (Apple). Capital One Shopping had been below #70 a week earlier.

ParentSquare debuted at #19 on a back-to-school download mandate

ParentSquare, the K-12 school-to-home communication app, entered Apple's US top 25 free apps at #19 this morning (Apple). It was not in the top 25 on Friday, and it is the only new app to crack the frozen front of the chart this weekend.

Spider-Man's record $168M opening day couldn't move a single ticket app

Spider-Man: Brand New Day posted the biggest opening day in domestic box office history on Friday, $168 million from 4,487 theaters, beating Avengers: Endgame's $157M first day (Deadline, Variety). Sony projects a $325M weekend, the second-best ever, and rival estimates say it could chase down Endgame's $357M all-time record by Sunday. The Odyssey added a Christopher Nolan-record $51M third weekend alongside it (Screen Rant).

Three AI assistants climbed back into the top 10, but none can reach #1

ChatGPT at #3, Google Gemini at #9, and Claude at #10 put three AI assistants back in the top 10 together (Apple). That reverses the late-July dip when only ChatGPT made the top 10 and both Claude and Gemini fell out, and it softens the structural-ceiling thesis that the cohort was being pushed down.

The sort-puzzle wall held the free-games top 5 for a third week

Block Out! at #1, Smash Fest! at #2, Meowdoku! at #3, Bus Traffic Fever! at #4, and Magic Sort! at #5 (Apple games, MSY, updated Aug 2). That is the same five-app wall that has frozen the front of the games chart since around July 21, with Bus Traffic and Magic Sort occasionally swapping the #4 and #5 slots.
